Jakarta – The Palestinian Humanitarian Organization Aqsa Working Group (AWG), together with the Maemuna Center (Mae_C), held a simultaneous flag-raising action for Palestine and Indonesia across all AWG bureaus in various regions, including Lampung, Palembang, Jambi, Medan, Jabodetabek, West Java, Central Java, and Kalimantan to the eastern part of Indonesia on Sunday (May 21, 2023).
This action was taken as a form of solidarity with Palestine, supporting the liberation of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, and as a rejection of the recent Israeli flag march in Al-Quds.
In Tasikmalaya, the raising of the Palestinian and Indonesian flags took place on Sunday afternoon at several iconic and historical mosques, including the Grand Mosque of Tasikmalaya, the Bani Alfatah Parakan Honje Mosque, the Aayatul Muthmainnah Mosque at Shuffah Aljamaah Islamic Boarding School, and the Al-Furqon Mosque in Tasikmalaya.
Meanwhile, at the same occasion, hundreds of students raised the Palestinian and Indonesian flags in the courtyard of the An-Nubuwwah Mosque, the largest mosque in Lampung province, located within the Shuffah Hizbullah Islamic Boarding School and the Al-Fatah Madrasah in Lampung, Al-Muhajirun, Negararatu, Natar, South Lampung.
“The flag-raising action was conducted in crowded areas or mosques on Sunday at 13:00 local time. We did this as a protest against the provocative flag march and as a show of support for the Palestinian people,” said the Chairperson of AWG Presidium, Nur Ikhwan Abadi, on Sunday (May 21).
He stated that the movement of support and solidarity with Palestine will never wane. Every November, AWG organizes the Month of Palestinian Solidarity campaign for a full month, which has been taking place for the past two years.
“This year, in November 2023, with the help of Allah, we will hold the Month of Palestinian Solidarity (BSP) in ASEAN countries to garner greater support for Palestine,” said Nur Ikhwan.
AWG remains committed to working collectively to defend the independence of Palestine and the Al-Aqsa Mosque through various programs, including socialization, education, training, and support, as well as opening donations for the Palestinian people.
“May Allah bless our efforts so that Palestine and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which are symbols and icons of Muslims worldwide, can soon be free from occupation and return to the Palestinian people and the Muslim community,” he concluded.
Thousands of Israelis participated in the Flag March in Al-Quds, East Jerusalem on Thursday (May 19, 2023). The highly controversial annual event featured racist chants of “death to Arabs” and attacks on Palestinian residents.
The disturbing action took place as participants walked through the Muslim Quarter of the Old City. One particular aspect of the Flag March was its route through the Damascus Gate and the Muslim area, which is heavily populated by Palestinians.
The demonstration was designed to provoke Palestinian residents, who were forced by Israeli police to close their shops to allow the march to proceed.
